 Warrior Series

The Warrior series is a powerful sequence of yoga poses that help increase strength, improve balance, and develop focus and concentration. This sequence is also known as the Virabhadrasana series, named after the mythical warrior Virabhadra. This series of yoga poses is perfect for individuals who want to build their confidence while improving their physical abilities.

To begin the Warrior series, start by standing at the front of your mat with your feet hip-distance apart and your hands by your side. Take a deep breath and on the exhale, lift your arms up towards the sky with your palms facing inward.

As you inhale, step your left foot back about three to four feet while keeping your right foot firmly planted on the ground. Turn your left foot outwards, so it’s at a 45-degree angle and bend your right knee towards a right angle.

Gaze forward and stretch your arms out parallel to the floor, with your left arm reaching towards the back of your mat and your right arm reaching towards the front. This is your Warrior I pose.

Inhale deeply, and then on the next exhale, shift your weight onto your right foot and pivot your left foot flat towards the floor. Straighten your right leg and bring your arms down so that they’re extended out to the sides. This is your Warrior II pose.

As you exhale, drop your left hand down to your left ankle and lift your right arm up towards the sky, coming into your Reverse Warrior pose. Reach up and back, feeling a stretch through your right side.

Exhale as you cartwheel your hands down to the floor, framing your right foot, and step back to plank pose. Take a deep inhale, then exhale into downward-facing dog.

Repeat the sequence on your opposite side starting with your right foot stepping back.

The Warrior series is highly energizing and invigorating for the body. The Warrior poses also have a positive impact on the mental and emotional aspects of one’s practice. These postures improve focus and concentration and can help develop inner strength and determination.

By practicing this series regularly, one can increase mobility, flexibility, and stamina while also improving overall physical health. The Warrior series is a perfect yoga sequence for athletes and anyone looking to build strength both physically and mentally.
